UNLOCKED PATHWAYS

While we are passionate about dignified job creation, we know that a stable wage is only one piece in the foundation of a healthy life. That’s why we started Unlocked Pathways, a 6-12 month transitional program. With the invaluable support of local organizations, Unlocked Pathways utilizes individualized, holistic care to form a sustainable pathway out of homelessness and into stable housing and secure employment.

Wages & Financial Empowerment

Together, wages and financial training empower our Makers to achieve financial security, meet their own daily needs, and save for their futures.

--

At Unlocked, our Makers are paid above a living wage in Nashville, TN, which is over 65% higher than minimum wage. Each month, employees take on more hours as they continue to familiarize themselves with the company, the program, and a working schedule. Through Community Financial Resources and US Bank, Unlocked provides direct deposit cards, personal savings account, and weekly financial training seminars for all Makers.

Housing Stability & Opportunity

Utilizing a “housing first” model, we work with local organizations to provide individual transitional housing units to each Maker, offering stability, autonomy, and privacy.

--

It is inherently difficult to focus on employment and long-term planning when basic needs like shelter are not met. As such, we work with Urban Housing Solutions and Community Care Fellowship to provide transitional housing units to unhoused Makers with the expectation that they will contribute to rent and utilities in proportion to their wages. Makers continue to live in their transitional unit and work with their case management team until they secure permanent housing of their own.

Career Counseling & Development

Our goal is to leverage the security of transitional employment and housing to empower Makers to find a career that is both fulfilling and sustainable.

--

Makers meet weekly with a career counselor who walks them through a six-month curriculum, beginning with self-awareness and aspirations and ending with resume creation, interview preparation, and job applications. Makers are expected to apply and interview with other companies until they have obtained stable employment, and they are asked to continue working with their case management and career counseling team in the months following their transition out of Unlocked to ensure a smooth transition.

Professional Counseling

Through confidential meetings with a licensed professional counselor, Makers are able to heal, build coping skills, and promote mental and emotional peace.

--

Overcoming difficult times takes intentionality, so we ask Makers to meet regularly with a licensed professional counselor at no cost to themselves. In these meetings, Makers are able to prioritize their happiness and holistic well-being in a safe and nurturing environment.

Community Support

Beyond tangible benefits, strong relationships and a sense of belonging dramatically improve quality of life and reduce the likelihood of ever experiencing homelessness again.

--

Relationships are central to Unlocked, and we walk alongside our team members at every step of their process, working to build a supportive and uplifting community in everything that we do. We promote community support, encouragement, and accountability through feedback sessions, monthly team bonding activities, and regular celebrations. We also ask Graduates of Unlocked to come back for monthly luncheons, which serve as a time for encouragement, reflection, and story-telling.

PARTNERS

Community Care Fellowship

"Community Care Fellowship (CCF) serves as a daytime shelter that provides hot meals, warm showers, laundry/hygiene facilities, counseling, and social services referrals for people experiencing homelessness. Beyond providing these core services, they have programs such as career counseling and pre-K education to help break down the cycles of poverty."

In Unlocked's earliest days, we actually worked out of a storage closet in the back of CCF's building, so it's safe to say we're close partners. These days, we primarily partner through recruitment and housing. Specifically, CCF helps provide transitional housing units to Unlocked Makers through the Pathways program.
